Background information
The Center for Art and Mental Health was established in September 2021 with funding from the Obel Family Foundation and the creation of a national effort is made possible with a grant from the reserve pool of the Danish Finance Act.
As a knowledge and competence centre, the national organisation will identify and collect national initiatives in the field of art and mental health. It will also develop interventions and educational resources, and share its knowledge widely.
Behind the center is the Art and Mental Health Association, which was founded in 2019 and originated from the research program REWRITELIZE, which since 2017 has developed participant-focused art groups in psychiatry and researched the effects.
Art groups are developed and run in close collaboration between an artistic director and a co-therapist. The artistic director is responsible for setting artistic standards, while the co-therapist creates a safe space for all participants.
